Understanding your heating requirement is especially useful when choosing a new radiator, baseboard heater, or heat pump. Proper sizing ensures your system runs efficiently—too small, and it won’t keep up; too large, and you’ll waste energy and money.

How to Estimate Your Heating Needs

This gives you a solid starting point, but remember that ceiling height, window size, and sun exposure can all affect the final number.

Windows and Heat Loss – The Hidden Factor

Windows are often the biggest source of heat loss in a room. A single-pane window can lose up to five times more heat than a modern double-pane or low‑E window. If your room has large or older windows, add about 10–20% to your calculated heating requirement.
